Pashley Manor Outing

After a large tasty cheese scone and cup of tea we saw an amazing garden of tulips of many colours, sizes and shapes that were a joy to see. We then had a walk through the bluebell woods and round the rest of the gardens. The sun also shone mid way through our visit making everything look even better. There were also lots of fascinating statues made of different materials and a variety of trees, some very old, dotted around the garden. Thank you Marilyn and Glynis for organising an enjoyable days outing for us. Richard and Dorothy Patton

 Rambling

For the May walk 14 of us assembled at the Man of Kent Pub at East Peckham and although fine and breezy it was a lovely day for a walk. We all set off together along a footpath next to the River Bourne before following a road into the village where we then separated from the short walkers at the coffee shop. One of the facts regarding East Peckham is of a fellow called Walter Arnold who was notorious for being the first person in Britain to be prosecuted for speeding at 8mph, the speed limit at the time being 2mph, he was fined one shilling. He was caught by a policeman who gave chase on a pedal cycle! This is a true fact which people on walks never believe! Through the village we followed a footpath which ended up crossing a stream and carried on to a lock. Crossing over we followed the river until we emerged from the wooded area into a camping field at the back of the Hop Farm. Now this is where we made an error and wandered off course. We ended up walking through a number of camping fields looking to rejoin the tow path. However in the end we were forced to ask for directions from other walkers who put us on the right path so we arrived back at the correct time for lunch. Note This isn't the first time we have gone off course during our walks but we are never lost. We do know we are somewhere in Kent but it does make a short walk into a longer one! Next walk will be at Matfield on June 3rd. **************************************************  Roly K

Rambling

Our April walk commenced from the George P/H at Trottiscliffe. The day was bright and sunny although there was a chill wind blowing which meant some coats needed to be worn. Thirteen hardy souls turned up, which was commendable as the road to Trottiscliffe was closed and a diversion was in place. As usual we had two walks, one short and one long. Six of the group chose the long walk whilst the rest undertook the short walk.

The long walk took us through some pretty amazing countryside with glorious views of Kent and the short walk terminated at a lovely country church.

After a couple of hours or so we finally met up with the short walkers who had been having an interesting interaction with some sheep, pigs and alpacas at a local sanctuary. We all finally arrived back at the George at around 12.15ish where some of the group stayed for lunch. All in all a good day.

The next walk is on the 6th May and will commence from The Man of Kent P/H East Peckham TN12 5LA and will leave at 10.00. Please come along for a nice healthy morning out. Robin D

Rambling

Nineteen walkers gathered at the Duke of Wellington in Ryarsh for our first walk of the year, It was a bright, sunny but frosty morning, just right for a ramble. We split into two groups one for long walkers with myself in the lead the other for a shorter walk with John Doe at the helm. The long walkers set off going up through the village and turning into the woods, and although it hasn't rained for a while the wood was very muddy and in parts we did struggle to make headway but by following the footpath we eventually came to The Coldrum long Barrow, where we stopped for a rest. From the footpath here we had quite a good view of the remainder of our walk but first we had to tackle a slight incline to the North Downs Way and then downhill to a footpath leading to the road back to the pub, where we found the short walkers having coffee in the garden. All in all this was a lovely walk with some lovely views over the Kent countryside and although arduous in parts was worth the effort which left everyone with a sense of satisfaction. The Next walk is Trottiscliffe on the 1st April (April fools day) meet at the

George Public house the lead will be Robin. Roly K

10 Pin Bowling

Hi all, well it was quite a depleted set of bowlers this month with only 5 turning up to play due to other commitments, We played 2 games with fairly low scores, with Myself scoring 121 and Maddy 101 with Phil coming next with 89. In the second game i scored 117 and Phil just beating Maddy with 89 to 87. Hopefully we'll have a better attendance, which will be on 28th March. See you there if you think you can be a winner Brian U .

We are booked into Weald of Kent golf club for the 2nd December Christmas Lunch.

Please put the date in your diary and i will keep you posted. marilynu@sky.com
